Configure an Acronis Backup Check

Step-by-step guide to setting up the Acronis Backup check in octoja to monitor Acronis Cyber Protect backups on a device.

The Acronis Backup check watches Acronis Cyber Protect on a device — it confirms the Acronis agent is running and reads the most recent backup's age and result. It works on both Windows and macOS.

Prerequisites

This check runs on the protected device, so set it up there.

  • You need the Monitoring Check Management permission. Permissions are assigned under Administration → Groups.
  • An octoja agent installed on the device that runs Acronis Cyber Protect.
  • The Acronis Cyber Protect agent installed and its service running, including the acrocmd command-line tool that ships with a standard installation.

Steps

Add the check on the device whose Acronis backups you want to watch.

  1. Go to Devices and open the device that runs Acronis.
  2. Click the Checks tab → Add CheckAcronis Backup.
  3. Set the warning threshold (hours) and critical threshold (hours) for how old the last successful backup may be before octoja alerts. The defaults are 26 and 72 hours, which suit a daily backup with some slack.
  4. Click Add Check.

What triggers an alert?

ConditionSeverity
The Acronis agent service is not runningCritical
The last backup failed, or is older than the critical thresholdCritical
The last backup finished with warnings, is older than the warning threshold, or another backup failed in the last 24 hoursWarning
The agent is running but has no backup history yetWarning
The acrocmd tool could not be found or runFailure
The last backup succeeded within the thresholdsOK

Tips

  • Set the thresholds a little wider than your backup interval so a single late run produces a warning rather than an immediate critical.
  • The check reads results from the local Acronis agent — it does not start backups or change the Acronis configuration.
  • The result tokens octoja reads are language-independent, so the check works on a localized Acronis agent.

After the first check interval, the result appears in the device's Checks tab.
