Sign in with Microsoft (SSO)

You can sign in to octoja with your Microsoft account instead of a separate octoja password — one less password to remember. octoja handles the connection to Microsoft for you: there is nothing to set up in Microsoft Entra or Azure, and no IDs or secrets to provide.

Before you start

• The octoja account has to exist already. Signing in with Microsoft never creates an account — it connects a Microsoft identity to an octoja account someone has already created.
• octoja identifies each person by their Microsoft account itself, not by their email address. Everyone links their own Microsoft account once, and the connection is made only when that person completes the Microsoft sign-in — so it cannot be set up for someone else in advance.
• Microsoft sign-in has to be switched on for your octoja instance. If the Continue with Microsoft button is missing from the sign-in page, contact octoja support to have it enabled. The button shows whatever name your administrator gave the provider, so it may read slightly differently.

Step 1 — Administrator: prepare the account

Do this once per person. It gives the technician a way to sign in the first time so they can link their own Microsoft account.

1. Go to Administration → Users and select Add User.
2. Enter the person's Email and Last Name. A First Name is optional.
3. Set a password in the Password field — do not leave it empty. The technician needs it to sign in the first time, and the Microsoft connection can only be made from a signed-in session. Treat it as temporary: the technician can remove it later (Step 2).
4. Select Add to create the account.
5. On the Edit User page, assign the person to at least one group under Groups, then save. A user with no group can sign in but cannot reach any customers, devices, or other managed content.
6. Give the email address and temporary password to the technician securely — in person or through an encrypted channel, not in a plain email.

Step 2 — Technician: link Microsoft and sign in

1. Sign in to octoja with your email address and the temporary password.
2. Open your profile and find the Authentication section.
3. Under Linked Logins, select Link Account and choose Microsoft from the list.
4. Complete the Microsoft sign-in with your own Microsoft account. You return to octoja, and Microsoft now appears under Linked Logins.
5. Optional — for Microsoft-only sign-in, remove your octoja password: in the same Authentication section, select the trash icon next to your password and confirm. This is available only once Microsoft is linked; octoja never lets you remove your last remaining sign-in method.

Sign in with Microsoft

1. Open the octoja sign-in page.
2. Select Continue with Microsoft — it sits above the email and password fields, separated by an or sign in with email divider.
3. Complete the Microsoft sign-in. You arrive back in octoja, signed in to your account.

Note: If you choose Continue with Microsoft before your account is linked, octoja shows the message "This SSO login is not linked to any account. An administrator must connect it first." Finish Step 1 and Step 2 first, then sign in.

Unlink your Microsoft account

To disconnect Microsoft, open your profile, find Microsoft under Linked Logins, and select Unlink. You cannot remove your last remaining sign-in method — if Microsoft is your only way in, set an octoja password first.
