This article defines the main objects and terms used in octoja, from customer structure to monitoring results.

Object hierarchy

The main objects are organised in a hierarchy:

  • IT Provider

  • Customer (the managed organisation)

  • Site (an office, branch, or location)

  • Device (a workstation, server, or other monitored system)

    • Check (a recurring monitoring test)

Customer

An organisation whose IT environment is managed in octoja

Site

A physical location such as an office, warehouse, or data centre

Device

A monitored computer, server, or other supported asset

Agent

The local service or application installed on a device for monitoring and communication

Check

A recurring test, for example disk space, service state, or SSL certificate expiry

Typical flow

  1. An IT provider creates a customer record.

  2. They add one or more sites and register or deploy agents on the relevant devices.

  3. Checks run on those devices at defined intervals.

  4. Checks report their results back to octoja, where you can see the current state at a glance.
