Language and regional formats

How octoja manages language and regional settings, in the web interface and in what it sends out.

octoja supports multiple languages and adapts the user interface automatically to your preferred language. The following sections describe how language settings work.

Language

The octoja interface can be displayed in multiple languages. Each user can set their preferred language under Profile → Preferences → Language.

octoja supports six languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Italian and Dutch. These cover the web interface and the messages the API sends back, including the text that describes a check result. Details a check reads off a device — a service name or the text of an event, for instance — appear as that device reports them.

You can pick your language from the language selector on the login screen and from your profile at any time. The six options appear there as English, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano and Nederlands.

Until you choose, octoja follows the language your browser asks for. A regional variant maps to its base language, so a browser set to Austrian German gets German and one set to Canadian French gets French. A browser asking for a language octoja does not carry gets English.

Where your choice is saved

The language you pick in your profile is stored with your octoja account rather than in the browser. Sign in from another computer and octoja opens in the same language.

The selector on the login screen behaves differently. It translates the sign-in screen so you can read it, and leaves your stored choice alone. Your profile setting takes over once you are signed in.

The language other people receive

Your own setting governs what you see. Everything octoja sends outward carries its own language, resolved per recipient — so a colleague who works in French reads a French alert even when you set the rule up in German.

What octoja sendsLanguage it uses
Mobile notifications — SMS, calls and app pushEach recipient's own profile language
Mail to an entry under Email recipientsThe language set on that recipient
Messages to a Teams channelThe language set on that channel
A scheduled reportThe language set per receiver on the schedule
Tickets in a connected ticket systemThe language set on that integration

Where no language is set, octoja falls back to English.

Date and time formats

Date and time formats follow your browser's regional settings, independent of the interface language. For example, a browser set to a German region shows dates as DD.MM.YYYY, while a browser set to English (United States) shows MM/DD/YYYY.
