Configure the email sender
Choose how octoja sends alerts, reports, and invitations.
The Email Sender page controls how octoja sends alerts, reports, and user invitations.

Prerequisites
- You must be a member of an administrator group.
- For custom SMTP or Microsoft 365, have the connection details and credentials from your provider ready.
Steps
- Open Settings → Email Sender.
- Choose a sending method:
- octoja default uses the sender provided by octoja.
- Custom SMTP uses your SMTP server.
- Microsoft 365 uses Microsoft Graph with your application credentials.
- For a custom provider, complete the required fields shown on the page. These include the sender address and connection details; the sender name is optional.
- Click Send test email and confirm that the message arrives.
- Click Save Changes.
If you leave the sender name empty, octoja first uses the Window Title from White-labeling. If that is also empty, it uses the octoja default sender name. An explicitly configured sender name always takes precedence.
Warning: Save a custom provider only after its connection test succeeds. Also check SPF, DKIM, and any other requirements from your email provider so messages are not rejected as spam.

Which source IP should I allow for my SMTP relay?
Which source IP should I allow for my SMTP relay?
octoja connects to the SMTP host on the configured port; the firewall in front of the mail server must allow this connection. Ask octoja support for the current outbound source IPs for your octoja instance and SMTP delivery before switching delivery methods.
Do not use your octoja website's IP addresses for this rule; the outbound source IP can change. See IP addresses and firewall rules. Do not open the relay to arbitrary senders to bypass a failed connection test.
Why does the Microsoft 365 test report Access is denied?
Why does the Microsoft 365 test report Access is denied?
In the Entra app registration, check that Microsoft Graph Mail.Send is an Application permission, not delegated, and that admin consent is granted. The sender must be an existing mailbox in that tenant, and Exchange application access restrictions must allow this app to use it.
This connection uses application credentials, not SMTP AUTH. Do not disable MFA, create an app password or remove access restrictions indiscriminately. Allow permission changes time to take effect, then retry the test. If it still fails, send support the error and test time, never the client secret.
