Edit multiple devices at once

Select devices in the device list and apply a customer, tags, custom fields, maintenance, actions, notifications, wake, export or deletion to all of them.

In the device list you can select several devices and apply one action to all of them at once — for example, assign a customer, add tags, set maintenance mode, or start an automation.

Prerequisites

  • You can select and export every device you can see in the list.
  • Every other action needs the matching allowed device action from the table below on the devices. It is granted under Device Access in your groups, see How Users, Groups & Permissions Work.
  • Run or schedule action only appears with the View Automations permission.

Select devices

  1. Open Devices and narrow the list with search and filters if needed.
  2. Tick the devices you want in the first column. The checkbox in the column header selects every device on the current page.
  3. A bar appears at the bottom of the screen with the number of selected devices and the actions. Open further actions from More actions (⋯).
  4. Choose the action, complete the dialog, and confirm. A message then tells you how many devices the action was applied to.

The selection only covers the current page: changing the page or page size clears it. To work on more devices at once, choose a larger page size at the bottom of the table (up to 500 devices). The X in the bar clears the selection.

If you lack the device action for part of the selection, octoja applies the action to the remaining devices only; most dialogs show how many devices are skipped. If you may not run the action on any selected device, it is disabled.

Assign a customer

In the Assign customer dialog, choose the customer and optionally a site, then click Assign.

Assign tags

Under Tags, pick existing tags or type new ones, then click Assign tag. The tags are added to the devices' existing tags; no tags are removed.

Set a custom field

  1. Under Custom field, choose the field. The action is only available when device custom fields exist.
  2. Under Value, enter the new value. An empty value clears the field on every selected device. For a Yes / No field, you save the switch as on or off.
  3. Click Set custom field.

The value replaces the field's previous value on each device — for a Multi-select dropdown, the whole list. Field types and rules are described in Custom fields.

Set or clear maintenance mode

Click Maintenance and choose:

  • Set a maintenance window — Define the window as on a single device: an optional name, Now until…, Scheduled window, or Recurring under When, and what to pause under Pause during this window. A window already set directly on a device is replaced.
  • Clear maintenance mode — Removes the window set directly on each device. Windows coming from config packages stay in place.

Click Apply. What each pause does is described in Maintenance mode and maintenance windows.

Run or schedule an action

Under Action, choose Restart, Shut down, or Automation, and under When, choose Now or Schedule for later. Only automations whose customer restriction covers all selected devices are offered. Each device gets its own run in Run history. Details on scheduled times and cancelling a waiting run are in Create an automation, section "Run it from a config package, the device list, or a single device".

Send a notification

Enter a Title (up to 100 characters) and a Message (up to 2,000 characters) and click Send notification. The message only reaches devices that are online right now; offline devices are skipped and do not receive it later. The confirmation tells you how many devices the message was sent to.

The bulk action does not request a response. How to format messages and ask for a response is described in Send a notification and request a response.

Wake devices

Click Wake devices. octoja sends a Wake-on-LAN packet to each selected offline device through another online device on the same network; devices that are already running are skipped. The requirements for the device and network are listed under Wake a device with Wake-on-LAN.

Export

Export selection downloads the selected devices as devices-selection.csv, with the columns currently shown. To export the whole filtered list across all pages, use Export CSV in the table menu instead; you do not need to select any devices for that.

Delete devices

Warning: Deleted devices and their history cannot be restored. The octoja agent uninstalls itself from these devices, see Remove the Agent from a Device.

Type DELETE to confirm and click Delete devices.
