Send notification
How to show signed-in users a message from an automation, which settings there are and when the step fails.
Use this action to show a message window to the users signed in on the device, for example to announce maintenance. It only delivers the message and does not wait for a reply. To ask a question and act on the answer, use Ask user instead. The device must be online.
Prerequisites
- A Windows or macOS device with a user signed in.
Configuration fields
You cannot save the automation while Title or Message is empty. For more on formatting, see Send a notification and request a response.
Platform support
On Linux, the step always fails with No user is signed in on the device.
Outputs
This action produces no outputs.
Result behaviour
A successful step only confirms delivery, not that someone read the message. The window stays open until the user acknowledges it. Each delivery is also recorded in the device log with title and message.
By default, On failure is set to Stop the workflow, so the automation stops when nobody is signed in. To carry on with maintenance anyway, set On failure on this step to Continue to next step.
