Dell Warranty

Get warned in time before your Dell devices' warranty expires, based on Dell TechDirect data.

The Dell Warranty check queries device support entitlements through the Dell TechDirect API. For each service tag, evaluation uses the latest valid end date among the returned entitlements. An individual entitlement ending earlier therefore does not necessarily trigger an alert. The check runs on a Windows device (x64 or ARM64) with the octoja agent, every 24 hours by default.

Prerequisites

  • A Windows device running the octoja agent, x64 or ARM64, executes the check.
  • You need a client ID and client secret for the Dell TechDirect warranty API.
  • The executing device needs outbound HTTPS access to apigtwb2c.us.dell.com.

Steps

  1. Assign the check through a config package.
  2. Enter the API key and API secret.
  3. Without explicitly configured service tags, the check reads the executing Dell device's own tag. Under Show advanced options, you can enter other service tags instead, for example for servers without their own agent.

Alert before warranty expiryToggleNoEnabledEvaluate warning and critical thresholds against the remaining days. When disabled, unexpired warranties remain OK.

Critical (days before expiry)NumberNo30Critical when at most this many days remain. Visible and effective only with pre-expiry alerts enabled.

Service tagsListNoEmptyQuery these tags instead of the local service tag. Multiple tags are supported; duplicates are combined and matching is case-insensitive.

If the warning threshold is lower than the critical threshold, the check swaps them. Critical takes precedence when both thresholds are reached.

Results

For each service tag, the output includes the model, entitlement details, applicable warranty end date and days remaining. The overall status is the highest severity across all queried devices.

SituationResult
More than 90 days remainOK with the defaults.
31 to 90 days remainWarning with the defaults.
0 to 30 days remainCritical with the defaults.
Alert before warranty expiry is disabledUnexpired warranties, including the expiry date itself, are OK.
The warranty end date is before today's UTC dateThe status selected under Expired warranty applies. Disabling pre-expiry alerts does not change it.
Invalid or missing service tag in the response; no usable entitlement dataWarning. These messages remain even with expiry alerts disabled.

Troubleshooting

ProblemNext step
Credentials are missing or Dell authentication failsCheck the API key, API secret and warranty API access in Dell TechDirect.
The local service tag cannot be readCheck the serial number in the device inventory. Alternatively, enter a known service tag explicitly.
The executing device is not recognized as a Dell deviceUse automatic local lookup only on Dell devices, or enter the service tags you want to query.
Dell limits the request rateWait before retrying and avoid many simultaneous lookups.
API error or timeoutCheck outbound HTTPS access from the executing device. The timeout is 30 seconds per HTTP request; a lookup failure does not prove that a warranty has expired.

Entitlement data comes from Dell. If the reported dates are unexpected, check the service tag and its entitlements in Dell TechDirect.
