File Exists
Check whether specific files or folders exist on the device or are missing.
The File Exists check verifies that specific files or folders exist on the device. It can also work the other way round and report when a path exists that should not — for example a lock file that should have been deleted after a completed job. The check runs through the octoja agent directly on the device, on Windows, Linux, and macOS (x64 and Arm64 each), every 15 minutes by default.
Steps
- Go to Devices and open the device.
- Click the Checks tab → Add Check → File Exists.
- Under Paths, enter the absolute file or folder paths and use Path must exist to set which direction the check tests.
- Click Add Check.
Alternatively, assign the check with a config package.
Settings
- Paths are checked exactly as entered; wildcards such as
*are not evaluated. To check the newest file matching a pattern, use the File Age check. - Path must exist applies to all paths in the check. If you need both directions, create two checks.
Results
Each path is evaluated on its own; the overall result is the worst result across all paths.
A missing path — or, with the option turned off, an existing path — results directly in Critical, not a warning. If the Paths list is empty, the check reports a warning.
The check details show Present or Missing for each path and, for existing paths, whether it is a file or a folder.
If the agent cannot see a path because of missing permissions, the path counts as missing. Make sure the agent can access the parent folder.
