File Size
Get alerted when individual files grow too large or stay unexpectedly small.
The File Size check monitors the size of individual files. It reports either when a file grows too large — such as a growing log or database file — or when a file is too small, for example an incomplete export or an empty backup file. The check runs through the octoja agent directly on the device, on Windows, Linux, and macOS (x64 and Arm64 each), every 15 minutes by default.
Steps
- Go to Devices and open the device.
- Click the Checks tab → Add Check → File Size.
- Under Files to monitor, add one or more entries with a File path and their own thresholds.
- Click Add Check.
Alternatively, assign the check with a config package.
Settings
- 1 MB here equals 1,048,576 bytes (1024 × 1024).
- For maximum-size monitoring, the critical threshold must be above the warning threshold; for minimum-size monitoring, below it. If the values are entered the other way round, the check silently swaps them before evaluating.
- Mind the defaults of 100 and 500 MB when monitoring minimum sizes: after the swap, any file up to 100 MB is reported as critical and up to 500 MB as a warning. Adjust the thresholds to the expected file size.
- The check treats negative thresholds as 0.
- The path must point to a file. A folder path is reported as File not found; for folders, use the Folder Size check.
Results
Each file is evaluated on its own; the overall result is the worst result across all files.
The check details show the path, size and status of each file.
