UniFi device

Monitor access points, switches, and gateways imported through the UniFi integration for reachability, load, and firmware updates.

The UniFi device check monitors access points, switches and gateways that you imported through the UniFi integration. It evaluates the state reported by the UniFi controller: reachability, CPU and memory utilization, and available firmware updates. The check runs server-side in octoja itself, not on an agent — you need neither a monitoring asset nor SNMP, and it is independent of any agent's operating system. It runs every 5 minutes by default.

This feature must first be enabled for your instance. An administrator enables UniFi integration under Settings → Beta features.

Steps

You do not add this check yourself: when the check definition is available, octoja automatically assigns the UniFi device check to every imported UniFi device, with the defaults below. To set up the integration and import devices, see Connect UniFi through Site Manager.

To change the values:

  1. Open the imported device under Devices.
  2. Edit the check on the Checks tab.

Settings

FieldTypeRequiredDefaultDescription
Alert when offlineSelection (Off, Warning, Critical)NoCriticalStatus when the controller reports the device as not online or the sync data is stale. Off does not evaluate the offline state
CPU warning (%)Integer (1–100)No80CPU utilization at which a warning is raised
CPU critical (%)Integer (1–100)No95CPU utilization at which the result becomes critical
Memory warning (%)Integer (1–100)No85Memory utilization at which a warning is raised
Memory critical (%)Integer (1–100)No95Memory utilization at which the result becomes critical
Alert on available firmware updateSelection (Off, Warning, Critical)NoOffStatus when the controller reports a firmware update for the device

If you enter a warning value above the critical value, the check swaps them before evaluating.

Results

FindingResult
Device online, no threshold reachedOK
Controller does not report the device as onlineValue of Alert when offline (default: Critical)
Sync data older than 15 minutesWarning; the device also counts as offline, so Alert when offline applies
CPU or memory utilization reaches or exceeds the warning thresholdWarning
CPU or memory utilization reaches or exceeds the critical thresholdCritical
Firmware update availableValue of Alert on available firmware update (default: not evaluated)
Device is not (or no longer) linked to synced UniFi dataWarning, Not synced from the UniFi controller yet.

The overall result is the worst individual finding. With the defaults, stale sync data therefore results in Critical, because the device then counts as offline.

  • The integration syncs every five minutes. When a device switches between online and offline during a sync, octoja re-evaluates the check immediately.
  • CPU and memory are only evaluated while the device is online and the controller supplies these values.

Collected metrics:

  • Online state, model and firmware version
  • Available firmware update
  • CPU and memory utilization (%)
  • Uptime (days)
  • Uplink throughput received and sent (Mbit/s)

Notes

  • The check is not an independent reachability test from the customer network. It reflects what the UniFi controller reports. For measurements taken directly from the device, use the UniFi (SNMP) checks.
  • For a finding to send a notification, set up alerting for the check: Set up alerts for a check.
