Terminal Sessions
Count the user sessions on Windows terminal servers and get alerted when their number reaches your thresholds.
The Terminal Sessions check counts the user sessions on a device, for example on a terminal server, and warns when their number reaches a threshold. It runs only on Windows (x64 and ARM64), locally through the octoja agent, every 5 minutes by default. Linux and macOS are not supported.
Prerequisites
- You need the Monitoring Check Management permission.
- The agent runs as Local System; there is nothing to set up on the device.
Steps
- Go to Devices and open the device.
- Click the Checks tab → Add Check → Terminal Sessions.
- Adjust Warning session count and Error session count if needed.
- Click Add Check.
To assign the check to many devices at once, use a config package.
Settings
If Warning session count is higher than Error session count, the check swaps the two values before evaluating.
Results
Both thresholds already apply on equality. If the session query fails, the check reports Failure; if it returns no output at all, Warning.
The result shows the session count and the user names of the sessions (at most 50).
Session detection
- The check evaluates the session list from
quser. It counts every session listed there, meaning active and disconnected sessions as well as the console session. - If
quserreturns no sessions, for example because the program is missing on the device, the check reports 0 sessions.
