Power Status

Get alerted when devices switch to battery power, run low on charge or have a worn battery.

The Power Status check monitors the power source, battery level, and overall battery health of a device. It alerts when a device switches to battery power, when the battery charge drops below a threshold, or when the battery's health degrades — important for laptops in the field and workstations on a local UPS. The check runs on Windows, Linux, and macOS (each in x64 and Arm64 builds) every 5 minutes by default.

Prerequisites

  • You need the Monitoring Check Management permission.
  • The target device must have a connected agent and a battery or UPS that reports its status to the operating system.

Steps

Add Check dialog with the Power Status editor showing Display Name, Warn-on-battery-power toggle, and Warning/Critical battery thresholds (30 % / 10 %).

  1. Go to Devices and open the device.
  2. Click the Checks tab → Add Check → Power Status.
  3. Adjust the thresholds if needed.
  4. Click Add Check.

After the first check interval, the result appears in the device's Checks tab.

Settings

FieldTypeRequiredDefaultDescription
Warn on battery powerBooleanNoYesRaise a warning when the device is running on battery instead of mains power (raises at most a Warning, never a Critical result)
Warning battery level (%)Number (%)No30Battery charge at or below this value triggers a warning
Critical battery level (%)Number (%)No10Battery charge at or below this value triggers a critical result
Warning battery health (%)Number (%)No80Battery health at or below this value triggers a warning
Critical battery health (%)Number (%)No50Battery health at or below this value triggers a critical result

In the check editor, the battery level fields appear under the Battery Thresholds header and the battery health fields under the Battery Health header. If a warning threshold is set lower than its critical threshold, the check silently swaps the two values at runtime.

Results

  • When more than one condition applies — running on battery, low battery level, worn battery — the check reports the most severe of them.
  • Devices without a battery report "No battery detected — running on AC power." and return an OK result.

Batteries and UPS units

  • Battery monitoring requires a battery the operating system reports as such (laptop batteries; on Linux, a device the kernel exposes under /sys/class/power_supply with type=Battery). Devices with type=UPS are not monitored for charge or health — a UPS-type supply only causes the reported power source to be AC.
  • For Windows workstations on a UPS that Windows reports as a battery (for example, connected via USB), this check alerts when mains power fails and the UPS takes over. On Linux and macOS, the check only evaluates device batteries, not a UPS.

Collected metrics

  • Power source (AC / Battery / Unknown)
  • Battery level (%)
  • Battery health (%, if the device reports its design and full-charge capacity)
  • Battery name
  • Estimated runtime (minutes, if available)

Tips

  • For laptops, this check helps detect devices that users leave unplugged — a fully drained battery means data loss if the device shuts down unexpectedly.
  • Battery health degrades over time — the warning and critical battery health thresholds catch ageing laptop batteries before they fail in the field.
